English Language Level Test

Just four simple steps to success.

Find out your English language level for higher education with our English Language Level Test (ELLT). Our test is recognised by many universities so you can use it to meet the entry requirements for a wide range of degree courses. It is also a great way for you to find out what level you currently have so you know if you need to do any more English language preparation before you start your university course.

Why choose the ELLT?

Four stages to assess your English language ability in each skill: reading, listening, writing and speaking. Your reading and listening will be assessed through an automated, secure online test and writing done through a unique written task. You’ll take your speaking exam live with an examiner over a video call.

Unlike other language level tests, our English Language Level Test is administered completely online via our ELLT Portal. Our portal is a user friendly platform and has been designed to work in areas with low bandwidth, avoiding possible disruptions as you take the test.

The English Language Level Test (ELLT) is an alternative to IELTS that provides you with evidence of your English language level for entry into top UK universities or other education institutions. You can see all the institutions who currently recognise the ELLT below.

Once you have registered and paid for your test online, you will have immediate access to the first three stages (reading, listening and writing). Each of these can be taken individually, and once completed you can book your speaking assessment with an examiner.

IMG Testimonial Rabia

“It was an awesome experience. The modus operandi of the test in which it was organised was very explicit and vivid. Additionally, my speaking assessment experience was undoubtedly great. Examiner was very polite and her way of taking assessments was really friendly. Overall, my experience was very good and the administration is very cooperative as well.”
