Pre-Sessional English for Oxford ELLT

Depending on the level you are required to reach, we offer customisable course lengths to ensure you are ready to start your university studies

• 2 weeks (1 component level increase in Oxford ELLT / 0.5 component level increase in IELTS)
• 5 weeks (1 overall level increase in Oxford ELLT / 0.5 overall level increase in IELTS)
• 9 weeks (2 overall level increase in Oxford ELLT / 1.0 overall level increase in IELTS)

Fully online lessons taught by experienced English teachers, to help you build the English language and academic skills for university-level study

• 10 hours of live lessons per week
  2 hours per day Monday to Friday

Full access to online study portal for guided independent learning, enabling you to practice your skills and language at your own pace

• 5 hours per week of independent self-study

Your course will include practice tests and preparation materials to ensure you are ready to take the Oxford ELLT. Practice all the skills and sub-skills tested in the Oxford ELLT with feedback from your tutor including:

• Listening for gist, detail & specific information, listening for inference
• Skimming, scanning, extensive reading & reading for inference
• Producing a coherent and logically structured essay-style text, supporting one’s arguments, and giving examples
• Structured presentation delivered orally, ability to ask and answer question on a given topic spontaneous use language

Your online classes will contain a small number of students enabling opportunities for tailored support for each student.

Students will have

• Access to Microsoft Teams to share assignments, feedback, and materials.
• Ongoing teacher and group feedback and assessment on performance.
• Access to Moodle where the course will be administered. Students will also have access to interactive elements within Moodle opportunities for additional self-study.
• Opportunity for extended study with peers outside the classroom via Microsoft Teams.

Our Pre-Sessional English course will improve your understanding and use of the English language and provide you with academic skills for university-level study and prepare you for taking the Oxford ELLT. At the end of this course, you will have improved in the following areas:

Writing
You will write opinion essays on a variety of topics and develop writing process strategies to produce coherent texts.

Reading
You will demonstrate thorough reading comprehension using a variety of reading subskills and ability to think critically when responding to an assortment of texts.

Speaking
You will be able to express yourself effectively and have improved presentation skills.

Listening
Learners will develop effective listening strategies, comprehensive practice, and training of listening skills.

Digital Literacy
You will learn how to navigate digital tools such as a virtual learning campus and communicate with peers and teachers online.

Mediation & Academic context
Learners will gain the ability to work collaboratively with peers, evaluate one’s work critically and engage actively in academic settings. Prepare to study in the UK and an learn the expectations for study at an international university.

Oxford ELLT
Students will practice and prepare the skills and techniques for taking the Oxford ELLT. Practice the application of skills and sub-skills tested in the Oxford ELLT and develop your language skills within an academic context. Practice test taking under exam conditions with feedback from tutors.
