In an increasingly competitive global education market, universities are under pressure to attract, retain, and support a diverse international student body. Pathway programmes are a proven strategy to bridge the gap between students’ potential and university entry requirements, ensuring a seamless transition into degree programmes. By expanding recruitment opportunities, improving student preparedness, and increasing retention rates, universities can attract a larger, more diverse, and academically strong student body; boosting both their global reputation and financial sustainability.
At Oxford International, we partner with universities to deliver flexible, high-quality pathway programmes that:
- Broaden international recruitment pipelines
- Improve student retention and success rates
- Enhance institutional reputation
- Drive financial sustainability through international enrolment
Why Oxford International Pathway Centres (OIPC)?
Our International Foundation Year (IFY), Pre-Master’s, and Pre-PhD programmes are specifically designed to prepare international students with the academic, language, and study skills they need to thrive. We offer multiple delivery models to maximise access and participation:
- 🌍 Global Hubs: Where students study from international partner campuses
- 💻 Online: Students complete their studies remotely from anywhere in the world
- 📍 UK Centres: Students study in-person at one of our study centres in the UK
The benefits of OIPC
- Increased global reach by attracting diverse students from across the world. Universities gain access to new markets by recruiting students from diverse educational backgrounds.
- Well-prepared students lead to higher retention rates and higher overall university scores
- Enhance economic growth with fully prepared international students
- Flexible and scalable admissions by integrating online and in-person pathways to diversify enrolment.
New for 2025: Computer Science Pathways
In today’s digital-first economy, computer science skills are in high demand. The UK’s STEM workforce expanded from 7.7 million in 2013 to 9.4 million in 2023, marking a 22% increase over the decade and is expected to continue rising according to data published by DfE last year. Many international students face barriers when applying for computer science degrees, including differences in academic backgrounds, language proficiency, and unfamiliarity with western university study methods.
We have developed and launched two new pathway programmes in Computer Science. These innovative programmes not only open doors for international students but also provide universities with a strategic solution for global student recruitment, ensuring a pipeline of well-prepared, highly motivated learners.
1. International Foundation Year in Computer Science
A two-semester programme (15 weeks per semester) with a strong foundation in computing, problem-solving, and English for academic purposes with a view to progressing onto UG degree programmes in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, AI, Data Science, or IT upon completion.
📌 Key Modules: Mathematics for Computing, Computational Thinking & Programming, Networking and the Internet, Research & Academic Study Skills
2. Pre-Master’s in Computer Science
This two-semester programme (12 weeks per semester) strengthens technical skills while refining academic writing and research abilities, with a view to progressing onto MSc Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Software Engineering, and related fields.
📌 Key Modules: Computer Architectures, Object-Oriented Programming, Networking and the Internet, English for Academic Purposes
As the demand for tech professionals grows, initiatives like this ensure that students from all backgrounds can access high-quality education and career opportunities in one of the world’s most in-demand fields.
