  • Learn how web browsers view HTML as a Document object model (DOM) which is a logical hierarchical tree structure.
  • Understand Chaining which allows us to run multiple jQuery methods (on the same element) and looping for searching the DOM using one method.
  • Learn how to create dynamic, interactive web pages using JQuery.
  • Create professional looking content easily and quickly using content panels such as accordion, photoviewers and sliders.
  • Use searching, sorting and filtering to reduce the amount of data to be displayed on a webpage.

This course covers the topics below through a combination of independent study and live lessons with an expert tutor:

Students will be expected to carry out two hours of asynchronous tasks which will be provided on a Moodle platform. Tasks will typically include reading tasks based on a particular topic. Students will also be expected to complete several activities prior to joining the live class.

The live class will be conducted on TEAMS with an emphasis on collaborative task-based coding activities. Students will be required to undergo an assessment at the end of the course to test the skills they have learned.

Introduction to the course

JQuery syntax

JQuery CSS selectors (element, id and class)

JQuery event objects, event handlers, event delegation

DOM (Document object model) manipulation.

Traversing the DOM.

Looping and chaining

Getting at, changing and adding content to the DOM.

Control panels

Creating an accordion, tabbed panels and using modal windows to display large amounts of data.

Creating a photoviewer and slider to view images dynamically.

Filter

Filtering used to filter large amounts of data on a webpage.

Explore three ways to filter data (filter-for-each, filter-filter and a dynamic filter).

Searching and sorting

Search using tagged and searchable images. Table sorting.

This course runs over a two-week period and requires 10 hours of study. This includes:

  • 6 hours per week (2 x 120mins live lessons + 2 hrs asynchronous flexible learning)
  • A practical assessment will be required at the end of the course which will be used to test key coding skills acquired over the duration of the course.

This course will provide students with advanced knowledge and skills required to carry out designing webpages using jQuery plugins.

Especially designed for any students who require a grounding in theory and practice of jQuery. Students should have some programming knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
