Working with Coventry University, we deliver online and face to face Pre-Sessional English courses in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Xian. Securing their recruitment pipeline from China.
Coventry University understands that the acquisition of English language capability is a strategic gateway to study access and an essential foundation for student success
In 2020, Coventry University needed an innovative solution to help students in China prepare for university admission. With travel restrictions limiting the opportunity for students to access this preparation in the United Kingdom, they needed an innovative solution that delivered results.
At OI Digital Institute, we saw this as a unique opportunity to create and deliver pre-sessional English courses through a blended teaching model. We enhanced our online pre-sessional English curriculum in partnership with the academic team at Coventry University to ensure that it met all their requirements.
We now deliver these courses in a range of formats from 6-weeks and 12-weeks with 90-120 minute live online lessons per day and 6 hours of face-to-face teaching per week. The academic syllabus is overseen by our team of highly qualified English language teachers from the Oxford International UK English Language division, which is accredited by the British Council for the teaching and learning of English. Oxford International lecturers deliver face-to-face teaching sessions that help students bridge the gap’ to their degree course and provide tailored support.
In addition to the academic syllabus, Coventry University delivers additional sessions for their applicants, including a welcome, visa and immigration, and course-specific taster sessions.
Students are assessed through an academic presentation, extended writing piece, and final exam at the end of the course. Results are shared with Coventry University swiftly after the assessment period, ensuring that students have clarity on the next steps of their journey.
The team at Coventry University have loved working with us to form a new, dynamic and strong performing partnership.
“It has been very exciting to work with this team to develop a truly innovative blended presessional English programme with face to face delivery flexibly offered at weekends and evenings, and in multiple locations in China. This initiative has been aided by a systematically delivered online support programme – carefully developed using the CU and OIEG experts’ accumulated expertise in course development, delivery and assessment and feedback. The feedback from the first cohort has been exceptional. We very much look forward to building on this success and offering more locations across china and expanding to South East Asia.”
