As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly embedded within higher education, institutions are rethinking how they assess learning, develop digital literacy and prepare students for future professional practice.

To support these conversations, the Oxford International Digital Institute (OIDI) is pleased to announce AI & Authentic Assessment in a Digital Era, a free online conference taking place on Wednesday 1st July 2026.

What to expect at the AI & Authentic Assessment in a Digital Era online conference?

The conference will bring together academics, researchers, educational developers and sector leaders to explore practical approaches to assessment, learning and academic integrity in an AI-enabled world.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with presentations, case studies and discussions covering topics such as:

  • Institutional approaches to AI adoption and governance
  • Authentic assessment design in AI-enabled learning environments
  • Human-AI collaboration in assessment and feedback
  • Professional discussions and dialogic assessment
  • AI literacy and student development
  • Metacognition, reflection and transparency in assessment
  • Preparing graduates for AI-integrated workplaces

Please note that the full agenda will be released in due course and topics are subject to change.

The programme will feature contributions from practitioners and researchers across the higher education sector, showcasing emerging practice and research designed to help institutions navigate the opportunities and challenges presented by AI.

Supporting Sector Collaboration

This conference forms part of the AI Literacy & Authentic Assessment in Higher Education Collaborative Enhancement Project (CEP), funded by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and led by Oxford International Digital Institute (OIDI).

The project brings together a network of universities and institutions to explore how AI can be used in teaching, learning and assessment for both staff and students, with a particular focus on building confidence, capability and critical understanding.

By sharing practical examples and encouraging collaboration across the sector, the project aims to support institutions in developing approaches to assessment and learning that are both innovative and academically rigorous.
