Oxford International Digital Institute (OIDI) has partnered with Abertay University to launch a new transnational education (TNE) collaboration designed to widen access to UK higher education and support sustainable international growth through flexible delivery models.
The partnership will enable students to study Abertay‑accredited programmes both online and in‑country via OIDI’s digital platform and Global Hub network. By beginning their studies locally and progressing to undergraduate or postgraduate degrees on campus in Dundee, students can access high‑quality UK education through a more affordable, flexible and supportive pathway.
Expanding access through flexible, global delivery
Abertay University currently delivers degree programmes in 12 overseas countries through 12 partners. The collaboration with OIDI builds on this strong foundation by combining online delivery with in‑country provision through OIDI’s Global Hub network, which spans 13 hubs across eight countries. This model significantly expands Abertay’s global reach, while ensuring consistent academic standards and a high‑quality student experience.
Initial programmes will focus on business and computer science, offering clear progression routes into a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Abertay University.
By enabling students to complete the early stages of their studies in their home country, the partnership reduces barriers to entry and supports greater accessibility. Students benefit from increased affordability and flexibility, enhanced academic preparedness, and the opportunity to build an early connection with Abertay University—helping to ensure a smoother transition to on‑campus study in the UK.
Supporting sustainable international growth
The partnership aligns closely with the UK Government’s International Education Strategy, including its renewed focus on transnational education as a driver of sustainable global engagement. By responding to changing student mobility patterns, the model creates accessible, high‑quality routes to UK higher education that support long‑term institutional growth.
For Abertay University, the collaboration establishes a scalable and predictable international recruitment pipeline, offering a robust framework for expansion across multiple global markets. For OIDI, it reflects a continued commitment to developing innovative, inclusive and high‑quality international education solutions in partnership with leading universities.
Shared commitment to innovation and student success
Gary Palmer, Managing Director of Oxford International Digital Institute, said:
“This partnership with Abertay University represents a forward‑thinking approach to transnational education—one that expands access while maintaining academic quality and strong student outcomes. By combining flexible digital delivery with local support through our Global Hubs, we are creating more inclusive and accessible pathways for students worldwide, while supporting Abertay University’s global ambitions.”
Claire MacEachen, Vice‑Principal (Global Engagement) at Abertay University, added:
“We are delighted to partner with Oxford International Digital Institute on this innovative initiative. This collaboration enables us to extend our global reach in a sustainable way, welcoming talented students from diverse international communities and supporting them from the very start of their academic journey through to success on campus in Dundee.”
Launching in Nigeria, with further locations planned
Accredited programmes will initially be available via OIDI’s online platform and its Global Hub in Abuja, Nigeria, with additional locations expected to follow.
Together, Oxford International Digital Institute and Abertay University are creating new, flexible routes into UK higher education—removing barriers, expanding opportunity, and supporting student success on a truly global scale.
